According to TMZ, the 52-year-old comedian was rushed to the hospital on Saturday, Dec. 3, after coming down with a streptococcus, a severe type of pneumonia. He ended up needing emergency surgery, which was reportedly successful, according to the outlet. He is now expected to be discharged from the hospital sometime on Friday, Dec. 9. Following the health scare, his girlfriend, Maria Libri took a moment to give an update on his health, telling her social media followers that Kattan is now on the mend. “This sweet, sweet man of mine is on the road to recover, after a severe pneumonia scare ❤️❤️❤️” Libri wrote in the caption of an Instagram post on Thursday, which featured a snap of the pair posing for a selfie together. “He is always taking care of us, now it’s our turn to take care of him 💞❤️@chriskattanofficial” she added. But it isn’t the first time Kattan underwent emergency surgery, as he previously had to go under the knife after breaking his neck while doing a stunt in 2017. “I just couldn’t imagine a piece of a car or a machine or a piece of metal in my back. It just didn’t make sense to me, so I got what was called a noninvasive surgery from a gentleman that was [practicing Eastern medicine],” Kattan previously said of the procedure while opening up to People about the health scare. Despite it being a “noninvasive” procedure, Kattan recalled being “bedridden” at the time. He was advised to spend six months in recovery, but returned to work in just 60 days. He has since undergone multiple more surgeries as a result of the very difficult recovery.
