Are there any spoilers for season 4 of The Rookie?
The biggest change for season 4 will be Nolan finally graduating his rookie status and becoming a P2, which means he will be a patrol officer and can even work solo as he will no longer need a training instructor. “It’s exciting to me, going into season 4 with things that we haven’t done before, with dynamics we haven’t put together,” showrunner Alexi Hawley told TVLine. “Also, what’s inherent in not being a rookie or a student or a trainee is that he’ll have a bit more strength, because he’s going to be the one making the calls. He’s going to be driving his stuff a bit more without having to, like, check in with a TO or you know pass a test every episode." We can also look forward to seeing Angela and Wes’s (Shawn Ashmore) wedding. They are going to have to finish getting married at some point in season 4, but what form that will take is unclear. Season 3 of The Rookie saw Tim Bradford passing his sergeant’s exam, but according to Hawley, he won’t be taken the promotion for a while, at least not in season 4. Hawley told TVLine, “I think it’s time for him to make a bit of a change, because he’s super-comfortable being a TO. Like, he knows how to do that, so let’s give him something to do that he’s going to have to learn.” As mentioned, it won’t happen in season 4, but when it does, Bradford will respond “to the higher-end calls — living somewhere between patrol officer and detective, basically. He’s still out there being active and maybe recruiting CIs, being a different version of who he is right now but in a way that obviously is inclusive to Lucy and to our other characters.”
What happened in the season 3 finale of The Rookie?
Lucy goes undercover as a meth chemist to try to bring down a big ring. She has to commit a robbery in order to do so, so Tim and Harper let it happen. Lucy misses her midnight check in and they get worried. Meanwhile, Lucy is cooking when she hears gunfire. She calls Harper because Sandra De La Cruz (Camille Guaty) aka La Fiera has arrived. La Fiera is arrested. Mainly, though, the finale was all about the wedding. Angela and Wes were going to tie the knot before the birth of their baby, but then Angela was kidnapped from her dressing room by La Fiera, who escaped while being transported to prison. “This is not the end of Lopez, but an escalation in this dynamic that they’ve had for basically the whole season,” Hawley said in the same TVLine interview. “There’s this friendship, a kinship. They’ve bonded over [La Fiera’s] son and [Angela’s] child-to-be, and also being Latinas who are two sides of the same coin.” Also in the finale, Nolan met his new neighbor Bailey (Jenna Dewan) when she showed up at his house wearing only a towel. She was housesitting next door and got locked out. They made a date.
Will Jenna Dewan return for season 4 of The Rookie as Nolan’s new love interest?
It is very possible. Hawley is very happy with the casting. There wasn’t a lot they could do romance wise during the pandemic, but possibly for season 4. “They also have phenomenal chemistry together,” she told TVLine. “Nolan has had some girlfriends along the way, but it’s been a minute and I feel like we really want to explore what that’s like with him.”
Will Emily Deschanel return as Nolan’s ex-wife in season 4 of The Rookie?
Wouldn’t that be great? Of course, it depends on Deschanel’s schedule and what is going on with Nolan and Sarah’s (Deschanel) son Henry (Zayne Emory), who should be out of the hospital after his surgery for a heart defect known as a Tetralogy of Fallout.
