Everything You Need to Know About Apple’s New MacBook Air with M2 Chip

New MacBook Air Design

The rainbow of colors includes Starlight (a goldish silver), Midnight (deep black with some blue tones), Gold, and Space Gray. It still aims to be light, weighing in at just 2.7-pounds and is only half an inch thick. But here’s the real scoop—the magnetic charging cable that might have saved you from a costly disaster is returning. The all-new MacBook Air has a braided and color-matching MagSafe cable that magnetically attaches with a click.  Its overall build is still the same thickness as the MacBook Air with M1 (starting at $949), but the new MacBook Air stretches the screen to deliver a 13.6-inch Liquid Retina Display. It’s stretched to the edges, and whether you’re streaming the latest Marvel movie, powering through spreadsheets or browsing the world wide web, the content will look great.

New MacBook Air Power

It’s the biggest change – powering all of this is the second-generation M2 Chip, aka a full processor designed internally by Apple. It allows the MacBook Air to last for up to 18 hours, and this redesigned version is also fully fanless since it runs so cool. The M2 MacBook Air features an 8-Core CPU, up to a 10-Core GPU and a Neural Engine.  Basically, this equates to plenty of power for any tasks … and it stretches further than the current M1 MacBook Air. The M1 MacBook Air is staying in the lineup ($949, originally $999).

How Much Does The New MacBook Cost?

The new MacBook Air with M2 will start at $1,199 (or $1,099 for education customers).

When Is The New MacBook Air Release Date?

The new MacBook Air with H2 is up for preorder soon and will begin shipping next month in July.

Let’s Recap

After just a few minutes with the new MacBook Air, there’s a lot to like. Yes, the classic wedge shape is gone, but the boxier design feels more modern and Midnight is an early runner for our favorite color. The typing experience is punchy and energetic, plus it’s a real boon to have full-size function keys up-top. And while we didn’t benchmark the performance, running through various tasks felt fluid.  Now if you’re cool with the classic design and a smaller screen along with the base M1 Chip, we’d take a look at the MacBook Air and save some cash.
