The tagline for the upcoming biopic of the Princess of Wales reads, ‘Every fairy tale ends. Kristen Stewart is Diana Spencer. A glimpse at Pablo Larraín’s SPENCER.’ Set during Christmas vacation in the early 1990s on the Sandringham Estate, director Pablo Larrain’s movie will focus on Princess Diana’s crumbling marriage to Prince Charles. The biopic will take place over a period of three days in which the princess realized that she had to choose a new direction in her life, requiring her to “veer from a path that put her in line to one day be queen.” Audiences at CinemaCon got to see a trailer for the movie today, which follows the family’s arrival at Sandringham and their preparations for dinner, as well as moments of Diana “letting loose dancing and running across the estate grounds.” An exclusive clip also features a conversation between Diana and Charles about the paparazzi, in which Diana suggests that their attention is mainly focused on her. “Perhaps that’s because I always take care to close my curtains,” Charles snaps. Deadline reports that Kristen’s accent is “pitch-perfect as the Princess of Wales.” A promotional clip released earlier this year shows Kristen as Diana gazing enigmatically into the camera, wearing a tartan blazer and the late princess’s iconic sapphire engagement ring, which now sits on Duchess Kate’s finger. Pablo Larrain, who previously directed Natalie Portman as First Lady Jackie Onassis in Jackie, has said this is a move about a woman’s decision “not to be the queen”, adding that they will portray Diana as “a woman who, in the journey of the movie, decides and realizes that she wants to be the woman she was before she met Charles.” He went on to say, “That’s why the movie is called Spencer, which is the family name she had before she met Charles.” Spencer is set for release on the big screen on November 5.
