Others heard “Quiznos” or “quiz mice,” with many wanting to know why she was singing in cursive—a descriptor often used for indie singers who warp their voices and stretch out their vowels for no apparent reason. But while the internet couldn’t let the moment go, they thought it was more iconic than anything else. Even fellow artist Lewis Capaldi found himself with the phrase stuck in his head after just one watch, and Etsy creators have already been inspired for several merch designs. Now, even Cabello is getting on the joke. While she hasn’t directly addressed why the word sounded the way it did, she is acknowledging that it sounded a little funky. On Monday, the former Fifth Harmony member shared a video of herself attempting to coach, well, herself, in pronouncing the word. “me before recording my version of I’ll be home for christmas (quismois),” she captioned the video, which flashes back and forth between two Camilas sitting across from each other in conversation. “Yeah, so I hear you’re recording a new Christmas cover. That’s really exciting,” the first, wearing a pinstriped suit, says as she sits on the couch. The other, wearing a giant pink bow for a top, nods quietly from the other couch in the room. “Okay, so we’re just going to practice some phrasing, okay? So, repeat after me.” She then sings the iconic phrase, emphasizing the usual pronunciation of “Christmas,” while the other version of her mouths the words. But when it comes time for her to actually verbalize the phrase, she just can’t get it. The two go back and forth for several seconds before she gives up on herself. “It’s gonna be great,” she smiles sarcastically, letting it go. “You are such a queen for this,” one follower responded. “I don’t get it, Camila. It’s perfect every time. Your version of ‘I’ll Be Home for Christmas (Quismois)’ is my favorite,” one joked. “Exclusively saying merry quismoiss in 2022 in this household,” said another.
