ABC/Christopher Willard Amanda and Alan wound up in the bottom three in the semifinals and had to be saved by judges Derek Hough, Carrie Ann Inaba and Bruno Tonioli—who were all in agreement that Amanda should go through, so head judge Len Goodman didn’t need to vote. “I was terrified,” Amanda told reporters after her close call with elimination. “It was really scary. The day had been a whole rollercoaster of emotions—to go from dancing the tango to dancing “Live Your Life,” and then that elimination. That was really scary. We’re just happy to be here. Thank you judges.” Alan added, “We realized that we are so grateful to be in the finale. No one’s getting eliminated anymore. This is it. We got to do all of our dances. It’s joyous. We’re going to go out there and honestly live our best lives next week because we get the opportunity to go out there and perform again and that’s what we love. We got through this amazing journey and every single week we could look back and be like, ‘We’re proud of this,’ and we get one more chance to be proud of ourselves and work really hard for this amazing goal.” The remaining four couples will compete in a final two rounds of dances and then one will win the coveted Mirrorball Trophy. “It is unbelievable,” JoJo said of making the finale. “I remember week one just wanting this moment, and now all I want to do is go back in time, because as great as this moment is, it means there’s [just a few days left], and I am devastated about that. But I’m going to cherish every single second, every single moment [of the time remaining]. I’m just so grateful.” In addition to the four finalists, the 11 eliminated couples will return to the ballroom to dance an opening number together, performing to the hit song “Dynamite” by BTS, and there will be special performances by Melanie C, who will return to sing “2 Become 1” by the Spice Girls, and recent CMA Award winner Jimmie Allen will perform his single “Good Times Roll.” For their first-round dances, the finalist couples will each combine two styles of dance into one routine for a Fusion Dance. For the second and final round, the couples will perform the most anticipated dance of the season—the fan-favorite Freestyle. “We lean on doing choreography that is challenging,” said Iman, who is the first pro NBA player to make it to the finale. “I came on the show to take on a challenge. This is something that I’ve never done, and it’s been a lot of fun. So, we’re just going to keep rolling with that.”
