In the recent Instagram video posted to Dr. Pimple Popper’s account, this satisfying pore of Winer looks to be situated on the patient’s back. As seasoned popaholics know, dilated pore of Winers (or DPOWs) are fewer and farther in between than some of the more popular dermatological issues like cysts and lipomas. So, when they come around, it’s pretty poppin’ hard not to get excited about it. Whether your a pimple veteran or a curious newbie to the culture of pimple-popping, you may not know what a dilated pore of Winer actually is. We’ll save you the embarrassment of having to Google it: It’s a glorified blackhead. But like, a really, really big one. Dr. Louis H. Winer was famous for describing what a skin pore was in 1954, which is how the pore of Winer earned its name, according to Healthline. It’s essentially a lesion on the skin that looks like an open, dark circle or plug. Think: the “head” of a blackhead but dilated (or enlarged) even bigger. Dilated pore of Winers resemble one enlarged pore with a dark plug called a keratin plug. (Keratin is a protein found in the skin of our hair and fingernails.) As far as appearance, DPOWs are most often surrounded by otherwise normal-looking and healthy skin. They usually require a comedone extractor—a fan-favorite dermatological tool amongst popaholics—to remove all the keratin and once removed, there’s often the appearance of a hole left. That’s the now-empty pore. “This is for everyone that’s been asking for DPOW’s in the comments!” Dr. Lee wrote in the caption. “They are SO hard to come by, if you see one you better send them my way!” As expected, Dr. Lee’s loyal pop-loving followers went off in the comments. “Phew! I can finally rest easy this week now that a DPOW has been posted,” one commenter wrote. Another chimed in, “We want to see the empty pore. Always.” Another commenter shared her own DPOW story, writing, “There was an older man with a huge one on his temple sitting near me in a park last summer and I swear. I just wanted to pin him down and squeeze it out. How could he see that in the mirror every day and not pick at it?!” As you can see, the popaholic fandom goes (appropriately) crazy for a DPOW. With Dr. Lee’s DPOW videos being some of her most well-liked and most-watched, we couldn’t give you just one. After all, DPOW pops are beyond fulfilling to watch (when the last bit of the sac lifts to reveal a full-on hole in the person’s skin, OML) but they aren’t always easy pops like the one above. Sometimes a DPOW gives Dr. Lee a run for her money, like this iconic one below. Yes, we called this DPOW iconic. Just watch how much effort it took to remove! When Dr. Lee momentarilycovered the above pore of Winer mid-pop, fans in the comments totally freaked. And rightfully so. Who wants to miss a powerful DPOW pop?!
