Royalty + tennis royalty teamed up for a doubles match at a homecoming event for Emma, who has just returned to the UK fresh from her victory at the US Open. Duchess Kate is patron of the Lawn Tennis Association and before taking a 66-day break this summer put in a last public appearance on Wimbledon’s final day. Emma revealed that she was “actually very nervous” in her game with Kate, who wore a tennis skirt, sneakers and a sporty navy cardigan for the occasion. Other stars of British tennis who attended the event were Alfie Hewett, Gordon Reid and Joe Salisbury. A picture of Kate and the players was posted to the Cambridges’ official Instagram account with the caption, “In the presence of champions.” Emma later described the duchess’s forehand as “incredible” so she must’ve played a pretty good game!
