Spoiler Alert: This interview contains details about this week’s Big Sky episode 9, “Let It Be Him.”
How did Big Rick die on Big Sky?
We thought Big Rick Legarski was dead when he was shot in the head but somehow he survived. Finally, in episode 10, his Merillee had had enough and beat Rick to death—with a hammer, in his hospital room! After the shocking episode, Parade.com talked with John Carroll Lynch about Big Rick. Here are some of his thoughts on his despicable character.
In your mind, was Legarski faking his memory loss?
I really liked that the writers left this open-ended. Far be it from me to close the loop. It is really up to you.
Were you expecting that ending for Big Rick?
I wasn’t expecting that exact ending but Rick had to go. Don’t you think? I think it’s perfect poetic justice that the woman who most suffered at his hands was the one to dispatch him though. Unless… this is all an elaborate ruse cooked up by the Legarski. Nah!
Do you think Ronald will ultimately be caught and prosecuted or was his last scene driving his truck even reality?
I love how you’re watching this show! I don’t think Ronald will get away with it. No. They’ll catch him…. eventually. Maybe the series finale in seven years? That’d be cool. When you find him and Rick living in a cabin.
Do you consider Legarski inherently a good guy that found himself down a wrong path or a bad guy pretending to be a good one?
All of Rick’s evil were choices he made. He didn’t find himself there. He was not a victim. There were other choices to be made. He had been at some point a straight shooter. But he chose to think he was above the law at some point. That never ends well. This cost a lot of people, a lot of women, their lives. So, he can’t be a good guy. He’s a louse. Big Sky airs Tuesdays at 10 p.m. ET on ABC. Next, find out why Big Rick was the way he was.
