To recap, Harry’s (Alan Tudyk) search for his alien family didn’t turn out the way he or Asta (Sara Tomko) had hoped. The alien who had sent the message, Goliath (David Bianchi), had died but left behind his offspring for Harry. A half-human, half-alien hybrid, Harry had no idea when the egg would hatch or what would emerge from it. As they left Violinda’s (Maxim Roy) loft and headed home, they were not only being following by Agent Casper (Mandell Maughan) but also two henchmen from the Galvan/Powell Group who have been tailing Asta and Harry almost the entire time they’ve been in New York. Back in Colorado, Agent Logan (Alex Barima) meets up with General McCallister (Linda Hamilton) hoping to exchange the alien ball for an honorable discharge and his life back. Negotiations are thwarted when they are shot at by Joseph (Enver Gjokaj), an alien sharpshooter! Does Logan survive? Who is that alien marksman and is he friend or foe to Harry?! To avoid checking their bags (and egg) and any TSA entanglements with their new carry-on, Asta and Harry take the train home. Of course, crafty Agent Casper has tracked them onto the train and confronts Harry in an effort to take the alien egg. Things don’t turn out well for her. As she and Harry fight, Harry loses his cool and Casper loses her head. Upon returning home, Harry gets more than one surprise when he finds our core group of characters from Patience waiting in his cabin for a surprise birthday party. As you might expect, Mayor Ben’s (Levi Fiehler) party is ill-timed—the alien egg hatches and Baby Harry is now running around the cabin and later outside. Afraid that the “humalien” will eat whoever it encounters, Harry keeps the party going and makes sure everyone stays inside. Harry comes in contact with Baby Harry momentarily as the “humalien” latches on to him and gives him a partial message from Goliath but detaches from Harry and runs away before it is finished. The message ends when Harry is shot by Tanner Corrington (Robert Maloney), the guy who confronted him in the pie shop in New York. Just as he’s about to take Harry’s life, he is mortally shot by Asta. Whew! That is a lot to process from one episode—and what a cliffhanger! As we wait for the back half of season 2 of Resident Alien (another eight episodes! Yay!) to return in late summer, Parade.com sat down with the show’s creator, Chris Sheridan, to find out what we can expect. Is the “humalien” something out of the comic books or the writers room? “Humalien” was a writer pitch, but I would be very surprised if it hasn’t been used before. Seems ripe for a Dark Horse comic. What can you tease about the second half of season 2 of Resident Alien? There’s so much happening in the second half of season 2. Terry O’Quinn will be back as the Alien Tracker, this time tracking an alien in Patience—two guesses who that is. The mystery of why Sam Hodges (Jan Bos) was murdered will finally be solved. And there will be a big reveal to drive us into season 3. Also a LOT more alien baby! Asta is a good soul and only wants to help Harry. She saves his life by taking another. How will this affect Asta? Killing Tanner Corrington will be one of the most difficult things that Asta has ever gone through. It’s hard enough to work through the emotions that come with that, harder still when an alien who doesn’t quite understand the weight of it tries in his own way to fix it. Harry has a tendency of getting involved and making things worse and this one is no different. Harry seems to be doing the parenting thing backward—first he encountered his teen daughter, now he’s a surrogate parent to Baby Harry. What can you tell us about Harry’s relationship to the new baby? When we come back into the second half of season 2, Harry is searching for the alien baby—not because he cares about it in any way—things don’t work that way on his planet. He just wants to find it so he can get the rest of the message and find out information about the alien race on Earth. Of course, Harry does have human emotions now, so when he does find the baby it’s possible it won’t be as easy as he thinks to just jettison it to the ice wind desert. If you had to choose: Baby Yoda or Baby Harry? Oh, Baby Harry all the way. Fans loved 42 and want to see him back. Will Harry befriend another cephalopod—43, perhaps? Tudyk’s acting in that final scene with 42 was perfect!! That’s a great question. I loved having that Odd Couple relationship with Harry and a “distant cousin” but it would be hard to replicate the chemistry between Alan and Nathan Fillion in those scenes. Maybe a different aquatic creature? I love Dan and Gary Farmer (the actor who plays him) as well as his interactions with Harry. Will we see more of him in future episodes? Perhaps a Dan-centric episode? Absolutely! Gary is such an enormous part of the show, his scenes are always so good. He has such a presence on screen, I would definitely expect to see more of him in season 3. What has been your favorite episode in season 2? It’s hard to say which of the episodes was my favorite.  I loved episode 203 (“Girls Night”) because it was an episode about the strong women on the show and I feel like it had such an important message (not to mention Alex Borstein). I also loved episode 208 (“Alien Dinner Party”) because it was the first time our whole cast was able to act together at the same time in those cabin scenes. And there’s an alien baby so that always makes an episode better! Next, Welcome Back, Harry! Everything You Need To Know About Season 2 of Resident Alien
