The 50-year-old musician, best known for his participation in the rock band Foo Fighters from 1999 until his tragic passing earlier this year. Hawkins was survived by his wife, Alison, and their three kids: Oliver Shane (16), Annabelle (13), and Everleigh (8). In honor of Hawkins’ dedication to music, his fans and the band, his friends and family organized two special tribute concerts (with proceeds to benefit charity): one in London on Sept. 3 and a second in Los Angeles on Sept. 27. The first of two shows kicked off in London last night, and according to Consequence, included over six hours of performances from a star studded line-up; including Foo Fighters’ Dave Grohl, Taylor Hawkins’ side-projects–Chevy Metal and The Coattail Riders–Liam Gallagher and more. But the talk of the night, was when Shane came out in place of his dad for a very special rendition of the Foo Fighters’ “My Hero”. In a video obtained by Consequence reporters and shared on Twitter, Grohl and the mini Hawkins can be seen putting all their energy into the bands’ 1997 hit. Like father, like son–Shane absolutely nailed the live performance and has gone on to become a viral internet sensation. The teen prodigy has received quite a bit of love for his talent, enthusiasm, and bravery to perform live on stage. “I can’t stop smiling at the proud look on Dave Grohl’s face watching his best friend’s son play those drums! I’m sure he was picturing #TaylorHawkins…What a moment! That kid is going places! He’s outstanding!,” one fan wrote. Another gushed over the chilling performance, “Chills. I got chills. I know Taylor was smiling from above. And I love the interaction with Dave as if he was easing him just by the stares like, ‘You got this.’ Amazing.” You can watch a clip of Shane’s rockstar performance in the embedded video above.
