So, as soon as possible after their win, the trio boarded a plane to Indiana to be by their father’s side. He was diagnosed with a rare cancer in 2017. They posted the following note on Twitter: If you are reading this, you have achieved the impossible: you’ve made a trio win. Not only have we made Voice history together, you’ve helped fulfill three siblings’ dreams and encouraged us to keep dreaming big. You’ve embraced the people we are and the music we’ve created, affirming our belief in ourselves and in what we do. For that we thank you! As we are writing this statement, our dad is in horrific pain following yet another surgery. The only reason we are still in Los Angeles is that our parents want us out here, doing what we love. We cannot wait to finally be in the same room. No matter the result on Tuesday night, we will be flying back to them as soon as possible. Some might think that this is the worst timing—our father taking such a downward spiral at the exact moment of our success on national TV. In truth, we feel fortunate and blessed by this joyful distraction. The Voice has given our family opportunities to connect, reflect, and marvel at the love we have for each other. Thank you to everyone at The Voice and everyone listening now for continuing to love and care for the suffering. We have felt your compassion and humanity throughout this whole process. Not only do you believe in us, we believe in you. Keep being positive, hope-filled beams of light in every corner of the world. Of course, this is NOT a goodbye. We have dozens of new songs that we cannot wait to share with you. We love you, we are grateful to you, and we hope you have a special holiday season. See you in 2022! Caleb Joshua and Becca aka Girl Named Tom Earlier in the season, Girl Named Tom had discussed their father’s health and dedicated their performance of the Glen Campbell classic “Wichita Lineman” to him during the Knockout Rounds. At that time, they shared their thoughts. Caleb started, “It’s a song about a really hard-working man, and we relate to this song because [our dad] is a pretty stubborn man, but he’s got this hope.” Bekah continued, “Our family has gotten a lot closer because our dad was diagnosed with terminal cancer. He has such a positive attitude going into every doctor’s appointment. It’s been huge for us to see that.” And then Caleb picked it up again, saying, “We’re definitely following in dad’s footsteps. He wrote songs for each one of us when we were little. The fact that we can be here and call him and share this wonderful news with him everyday, I think it gives us all a lot of life, but it’s not easy.” The trio also posted a tribute on Instagram to their parents, which shows their love of music stems from their parents: “The ones who surrounded us with music from day one. We grew up listening to Mom sing in the church choir & watching Dad play drums. We sang as a family quite a lot & at age 9 we were put into piano lessons. Mom loved hearing us play the piano as she did the dishes, and BOY did she have us practice. Dad would often come into our room at night (we shared one room for a time!) and play his guitar and sing us to sleep. He’s got great writing skills & we attribute a lot of our inspiration to him. We are SO grateful for our loving, supportive parents! It was so crazy seeing them cheer for us on the big screen!” Next, And the Winner of Season 21 of The Voice Is…?
