And the panel was not able to successfully guess his identity, throwing out names like Robert Duvall and Joe Pesci. But once he was eliminated and revealed, the mood distinctly changed. The clip above shows the unmasking. Most prominent is Ken, whose usual goofy schtick that has entertained the show’s audience for seven seasons suddenly drops. The camera does not go back to him throughout the rest of the chat with Giuliani, and any wide shots of the judges show him with his arms crossed, clearly very uncomfortable. “I want [my granddaughter] to know you should try everything,” the former mayor of New York City told host Nick Cannon as to why he came on the show, “even things that are completely unlike you and unlikely. And I couldn’t think of anything more unlike me and unlikely than this.” The final straw for Ken came during Giuliani’s farewell performance, as he gave the reprise that eliminated contestants usually do. As he begins the song, Ken looks off-camera and declares, “I’m done.” And as the lights and music are still going, the comedian walks down the stairs and off the set. Reports from when the incident originally happened said that Robin Thicke followed behind to check on his fellow judge. Though that moment wasn’t shown, it is notable that only Jenny McCarthy and Nicole Scherzinger are left to listen to the politician take his final bow. Ken’s walk out was a first for the series, a clear indictment from the judge on Giuliani’s involvement and support of President Donald Trump, including supporting his accusation that the 2020 election was “stolen.” Reports say that both him and Robin eventually returned to the panel to continue judging the rest of season 7.
