“I think it was probably the hardest week I’ve ever had on Dancing with Stars and I’ve done a few seasons,” Sasha Farber told reporters after the show aired. “It was so stressful. The poor girl started to feel really sick on Tuesday and then it got worse and worse. We had to miss rehearsals.” After performing the Paso Doble to Queen’s “We Will Rock You,” Suni rushed off stage and the judges seemed especially mystified as to what happened to her, but gave their critiques to Sasha, and eventually awarded her 33 points for her dance.
What happened to Suni Lee on Dancing with the Stars?
“Right before the dance started, we were standing in the tunnel and like 10 seconds in, she vomited in her mouth and tears started to come out and she started walking away, saying like, ‘No, I can’t do it,’” Sasha related. “I was like, ‘Suni, you’ve got this. Come on. This is game time.’ She turned around and she’s like, ‘Um hm, um hm,’ holding it in and she held it in for a minute 35 seconds and then the second the dance was over, she ran to a trash can.” Sasha says that Suni was so embarrassed by what happened that she wasn’t going to perform in the Relay Dance, but he and the producers were backstage with her, urging her on. “We’re all saying to her, ‘You’re going to regret this tomorrow if you don’t do this,’ because they would have played the dress run [like they did with Cody Rigsby and Cheryl Burke when they tested positive for COVID] and that’s where the poor thing was walking [her way through the dance]. So, she’s like, ‘OK, you know what? I’m going to do it.’” Sasha said the energy she got from the other celebrities and pros cheering her on in the Relay Dance helped her dig deep and finish, even though they couldn’t rehearse. “It’s a dance that goes around and around and around,” Sasha said of their Viennese Waltz to “We Are the Champions.” “I’m like, ‘Let’s just chill. We’ve got this. You don’t have to rehearse. I’m going to go extra slow. I’ve got you. Let me worry. Just hold on and hold your breath. Don’t throw up on me and we got this.’” Immediately after the show ended, Suni headed to the doctor, trying to get some nourishment and some fluids to help her get back on her feet, but in the meantime, she did enough to keep her in the competition one more week. “Next week, we have two dances,” Sasha said of Janet Jackson Night and a double elimination. “It’s a new challenge. It’s going to be a hard week, but hopefully she’s feeling better. I’m just so proud to be dancing with such a warrior.” Dancing with the Stars airs Monday nights at 9 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
