Along with the natural hype over any sequel to a film as good as Black Panther, many fans are curious to see how returning director Ryan Coogler and Marvel handled the death of lead actor Chadwick Boseman, who passed away in 2020 from cancer. They did not recast his character, T’Challa, instead shifting the focus of the story to supporting characters, except for one, as Daniel Kaluuya, who played W’Kabi in the first movie, will not return for the sequel.  As reported by Variety, Marvel asked Kaluuya to reprise his role, but unfortunately, the actor has prior commitments. Kaluuya will be starring in Jordan Peele’s new film, Nope.  Production for the film started in early June of last year, as ProductionList.com reports, and Variety announced the start of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’s production towards the end of the same month.  Since the two movies were shooting at the same time, Kaluuya was unable to appear in both.  Black Panther: Wakanda Forever production went on hiatus from last November to mid-January of this year, giving cast member Letitia Wright, who plays T’Challa’s sister Shuri, time to heal after an on-set injury, as reported by Deadline. Still, there will be plenty of familiar faces appearing in the sequel as other actors from the first movie are confirmed to be returning, including Lupita Nyong’o, Danai Gurira, Winston Duke, Martin Freeman and Angela Bassett.  Black Panther: Wakanda Forever also features the debut of Dominique Thorne as Riri Williams, a.k.a. Ironheart, who will go on to have her own series on Disney+.  Michaela Coel and Tenoch Huerta are also a part of the cast, though their roles have yet to be revealed.
