The awards show is going bicoastal for the first time in light of the ongoing health crisis, with Tina Fey and Amy Poehler hosting separately from New York’s Rainbow Room and the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles. Although the 2021 ceremony will broadcast from the two venues with nominees joining from locations around the world, there won’t be a traditional red carpet. However, NBC’s Golden Globes Pre-Show is set to begin at 7 p.m. ET, while Live From E!: Golden Globes, which will feature interviews with Hollywood stars and nominees, will start at 6 p.m. ET. The Hollywood Foreign Press Association will also have an official pre-show streaming on Twitter. Despite the lack of a traditional carpet, first-time nominees like Kaley Cuoco are planning on having “fun” with their Golden Globe looks. During the recent Golden Globe Stylist Roundtable, The Flight Attendant actress’ stylist Brad Goreski revealed, “[Cuoco] just said she wanted to have fun. She’s like ‘I want to have fun. I want to have a good time.’” Though Goreski noted, “Living during this time right now and also being very conscious of what is going on in the world, but then also on the flip side of that, too, having a little bit of fun right now and bringing a little bit of glitz and sparkle back into the world, I think, is also a really great thing to be doing during award season.” Like Cuoco, Schitt’s Creek star Dan Levyis also gearing up for his big night as a first-time Golden Globe nominee. “Dan’s a big fashion lover, so we definitely like to have fun with it and be a little bit outside of the box,” his stylist Erica Cloud teased. “There’s color involved.” She added, “Knowing the tone, it’s trying to walk the fine line of enjoying the fashion aspect, but also not being completely over-the-top in a certain way where it doesn’t seem like you are [un]aware.” Avo Yermagyan, who is dressing One Night in Miami nominee Leslie Odom Jr., pointed out that “the stakes are much higher” this year. “There’s been sort of a vacuum with no carpets really happening, so there’s going to be a lot of eyes on these carpets,” he explained. That being said, it’s important to pay respect to these challenging times. Yermagyan said, “For me, it’s more important to be mindful of the tone of what we’re putting out there and be conscious of the fact that people are facing real struggles, and although we want to give them beautiful moments and escapism, we still want to make sure that we’re sensitive to what the world is going through.” See what the stars wear when the 78th annual Golden Globe Awards air live Sunday, Feb. 28, at 8 p.m. ET on NBC.
